Dr. Ian started his career as a special education teacher, working in alternative schools for children with co-occurring mental health concerns and educational needs. While he'll always be a teacher at heart, Dr. Ian discovered that his passion lies in working with kids and their families on an individual level to understand how to overcome their challenges and optimize their success. He returned to graduate school to pursue a Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Colorado Denver.

Dr Ian is also certified in the evidence-based social skills program, PEERS for Adolescents, through UCLA’s Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills.

Before joining The Arete Center, Dr Ian spent years working in school districts across the Denver Metro area, most recently leading the Mental Health Department at Vista Peak Preparatory High School. He has extensive experience with the special education qualification process (IEPs, 504s).

Dr. Ian will tell you that soccer was his first true love. Playing since he could walk, he credits soccer with many of his proudest achievements and most important teaching moments, especially that self-awareness is power and resilience is unstoppable. He works with student-athletes on managing the competing demands of school and sports, as well as addressing performance anxiety, and is pursuing additional training in sports psychology.

When he is not at work, Dr. Marcheschi continues to play competitive soccer. He and his wife Emily enjoy spending time with their two kids and their Golden Retriever, Rooney, hiking, camping, and tending to their growing garden. The Marcheschi’s are grateful to have a large, extended family, both in the area and abroad, which completes their busy lives.
