Psychology
Psychologists are behavioral health practitioners with extensive training, including doctoral-level education and rigorous requirements for supervision before they can enter private practice.
Focus: Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Psychologists aim to understand how people think, feel, and behave, and why.
Education: Licensed Psychologists in Colorado hold a Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in psychology. This involves extensive training in research methods, psychological theory, assessment, and psychotherapy.
Treatment Approach: Psychologists primarily use psychotherapy (talk therapy) and behavioral interventions to help individuals manage and overcome mental health challenges. This can involve various therapeutic techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and more. They focus on understanding the root causes of psychological issues, developing coping mechanisms, and promoting personal growth.

First, we ask all new clients to submit a new client request through our website so we can connect you with the right provider.
The first meeting with all clients consists of a 90-minute comprehensive psychosocial and diagnostic interview with the patient and any caregivers (if the client is a minor). At the end of the interview, your clinician will provide a transparent review of their clinical impressions and facilitate a collaborative discussion, including proposing a treatment plan. This session also involves a discussion of the Arete Center philosophy and our approach to treatment.
All clients meet with a licensed and/or board-certified psychologist, or an extern or postdoctoral candidate supervised by a licensed psychologist.
We understand that accessing excellent behavioral health care is an investment for families. We offer our psychology clients the option of meeting with an extern or postdoctoral candidate (when clinically appropriate), which allows us to provide excellent clinical care at a reduced rate. Please see our fees section for more detailed fee information.

A current fee schedule is always available on our clients’ page.

psychiatry
-
Psychiatry is a branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
Dr. Walick is a Board-Certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist
Education: Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D.s). They complete medical school, followed by a four-year residency in psychiatry and sometimes a fellowship in a specific area of focus. This extensive medical training provides them with a profound understanding of the biological and physical aspects of the mind, as well as the intricate relationship between mental and physical health.
Treatment Approach: As medical doctors, psychiatrists are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. They can utilize a combination of treatments, including medication management, psychotherapy, and other medical interventions. They are particularly adept at diagnosing and treating conditions with significant biological components.
Medication: Psychiatrists can prescribe medication to treat mental health conditions. This is a primary distinction, as they are trained to understand the effects of psychotropic medications, potential side effects, and how they interact with other physical health conditions.ption
